From the music that accompanies the long drive and stops the kids from questioning ‘are we there yet?’ too often to the new bands you discover at local open mic nights, the soundtrack to your holiday is often one that helps transport you back to fond memories in coastal Pembrokeshire cottages or walks on Welsh beaches.
To help you make your next holiday soundtrack a success we have put together a selection of the best live music to watch on holiday in Wales.
Wales
The South West is not the only area to boast great music; Wales’ Pembrokeshire is also known to be home to numerous festivals and celebrated local talent.
Sarah McQuaid
Sarah McQuaid is one such talent that you can watch in Pembrokeshire this year. Now on to her fourth solo album, Walking Into White, the singer-songwriter is set to play at Pembrokeshire Intimate Gigs in Haverfordwest at the end of April. Born in Spain, the great folk artist is now a household name across Pembrokeshire, Devon and Cornwall, which she made her adoptive home. Other spots on her UK and Ireland tour this year include Penzance, Dorchester and Kent.
Aberjazz
Next to the numerous gigs that are available to go and see in Pembrokeshire, the Welsh county also has several great festival for visitors to enjoy. Aberjazz 2015 Jazz ‘n’ Blues festival takes place at the end of August this year, while those who just can’t wait for their taste of Welsh jazz can enjoy International Jazz Day with The Dukes and the Duchess in Ffwrn on the 1st May 2015.
St Davids Folk Festival
Cornwall isn’t the only county to enjoy folk music, as Pembrokeshire proves at the annual St Davids Folk Festival. Located in the grounds of the medieval Bishop’s Palace in the Close of St Davids Cathedral, the festival brings together some of the best local folk acts for a day of fantastic live music. 2015’s July line-up includes Jamie Smith’s Mabon, Fiona Maria Fitzpatrick and the Darling Buds, and Mike Chant & Friends, to name but a few.
These are just a handful of the great music events and talents that can be experienced in Wales to make up your holiday soundtrack. What song sums up your last holiday in these counties? Share your suggestions with us on the Powells Facebook page.
