Tenby has the best beach in Europe

The European e-tourist organisation, European Best Destinations, has bestowed its latest accolade of ‘most beautiful beach in Europe’ not to the famed resorts of Portugal, Italy and France, but to the Welsh town of Tenby. Tenby’s Harbour Beach went up against the likes of Sicily’s Scopello Beach, Greece’s Egremni Beach and Cyprus’ Nissi Beach, only to come out on top.

The organisation was developed to promote culture and tourism in Europe and shares the very best locations to visit in the continent. With all main European Tourism offices in support, the organisation is going a long way to showcasing the best destinations in Europe.

Why Tenby?

While Tenby has long been praised by visitors staying in sea-view holiday cottages in Tenby and locals who remain unsurprised by its winning of such a title, with its beautiful surroundings and wildlife regarded by residents as among the best in the world, the title of most beautiful beach in Europe may come as a slight surprise to some. Yet it would appear that the beach’s water quality and reputation are what made it a clear choice for the European Best Destinations organisation, who described the beach as ‘perfect for very young children’ in this article.

This latest accolade adds another string to Tenby’s bow as the town also won third place in the British Travel Awards’ Best UK Coastal Resort category last year. With second place in the most beautiful beaches in Europe category going to Portugal’s Praia da Cova Redonda, it is clear that Tenby had some stiff competition and fought off some of the most spectacular beaches in the Mediterranean.

While Tenby has been a popular destination for many holidaymakers in the UK and abroad for many years, with family-friendly Pembrokeshire holiday cottages often snapped up months in advance of the school holidays, it is thought that this latest accolade will give visitors even more reason to come to the Welsh county this summer.
