Developers to appeal over St Catherine's Island decision

It has been reported that developers behind a plan to transform the iconic St Catherine’s Island into a tourist attraction are to make an appeal to resurrect the project, with their claim to be heard by the Planning Inspectorate next month.

A sizeable project which would offer a completely new attraction for those enjoying their cottage holidays in Tenby in future, the plan was to transform the disused island fort into a new visitor centre which could be accessed via two boat landings and a fort entrance bridge.

The plans were rejected by members of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority in July last year, partly because they would have necessitated alterations to the Grade II listed fort, which has remained closed since 1978.

Should the appeal lead to the original decision being overturned, however, construction would begin imminently and the attraction could potentially be open to the public before the end of the year.
