Take a walk on the wild side this October Half Term

Pembrokeshire has miles of gorgeous coastline and a national park, so of course there is plenty of wildlife to see when visiting the area on holiday. If you’re staying in one of our Pembrokeshire cottages for half term, look out for these highlights when you’re out and about. 

Binoculars at the ready in Freshwater West

Head to Stackpole Estate on Thursday 29 October for the official launch event of the National Trust’s new bird hide. It is a custom-made timber roundhouse made from wood that has been sourced from within Stackpole Estate, and it has a grassy roof to help it blend into the natural environment.

Visitors can get to the bird hide via the National Trust’s network of paths in and around the Castlemartin Corse wetland. From 11am-1pm on launch day, a guided ranger walk will start from Freshwater West car park, a great opportunity to learn about the local fauna and flora of Pembrokeshire. Wellies and waterproofs recommended! 

See seal pups on a guided walk

Luckily for us, seals and their pups regularly arrive on the Pembrokeshire coast each year. And because of this, the National Trust has arranged a number of walks around the coastline at Martin’s Haven that takes in some seal-sighting hotspots.

A National Trust Ranger will lead a 2-mile walk that will end as all walks should; with a biscuit and a cup of hot chocolate. Booking is essential for the walk on 17 and 29 October; call 01348 837860 to book. As well as binoculars and sturdy footwear, wellies and waterproofs are recommended, again!

The walk is £3 for adults and £1 for children. The walk starts from Martin’s Haven National Trust car park.
